Production process

See how we grow our early vegetables
In A.S.O.P. Elafonissiou SYNPE we believe that in order for a association to be a pioneer, it must produce with high standard methods and procedures, with respect for the environment and with continuous optimization of services that ensure a strong commitment to its partners.
Soil disinfection

At the end of the cultivation, sun disinfection of the soils follows.
Solar disinfection is done in a natural way. We use a ground cover which traps solar energy from below, thus achieving an increase in soil temperature up to 70 ° C. As a result we have its disinfection, avoiding the use of chemicals.

Planting
The planting season of the tomato, which is largely determined by the microclimate of the area characterized by extensive sunshine, southern exposure and relatively high temperatures, is set from mid-August to mid-late October for the main planting.
The main planting with relatively favorable cultivation and environmental conditions lasts until June.
In the case of the second crop within the same season, the second planting starts at the end of January and is done depending on the species and the hybrid that will be cultivated, usually ending at the end of July.
Fertilization of flowers
During the growing season, the use of fertilizers and pesticides is made responsibly. For the process of flowers fertilization, the insect Bombus terrestis, commonly bumblebee, is used exclusively to follow the natural process and exclude the use of hormones.
The growth of the tomatoes
After the fruit sets, the tomatoes grow for about 10-15 weeks. After maturing and acquiring their characteristic, vivid red color, the producers of the association proceed to their harvest.
They are then taken to the association’s premises where they are separated and packaged according to size, color and weight. The product is then placed in a chamber under constant temperature control to keep the fruit fresh and unchanged until delivery.
